V2C17-What is magic? Can it be eaten? (2) part-1
I once heard a proverb in the past, which is popular in the human country, that goes like this, “God helps those who help themselves.”
My tactical instructor taught me that fate and luck are just things that individuals can’t completely control.
In contrast, the things that are completely under one’s control have nothing to do with the so-called fate.
Leading the army to fight with the enemy, if defeated because of natural calamities, then it is fate. If they were defeated because of their own mistake in the strategic decision, then they are purely responsible for themselves.
There is an element of luck in everything that can’t be completely controlled, but in that range of control, you always have to do your best.
Hard work doesn’t necessarily lead to better results than no effort, but objectively speaking, the probability of achieving better results under the same circumstances is generally higher. Make the most reasonable plan you could think of, and then try your best to achieve it. Doing all this, and failing because of objective reason, then you are qualified to blame the gods and accuse others.
“So even if you fail in the exam, you can’t blame others.” I stood at the door entrance and said to Angelica, who was lying on the floor like the dead.
Angelica didn’t respond, just like a corpse.
“Alas …” I sighed and then asked her, “so, what did you do in the exam that you became like this?”
Then finally she moved, she rolled over with her back to this way and said in a tone as if there is nothing left to live, “I am… finished…”
Today is the third day after the written theory exam, and there are still seven days left before the practical exam.
And just some time ago, the result of the written exam came out.
Students could already check their grades and ranking from the bulletin board of their respective branches and levels. Now the campus garden where the bulletin boards were placed was crowded with students who were checking their scores.
Of course, I am not stupid enough to squeeze there in that situation. Those elves would definitely scatter like birds and animals like they did when I entered the classroom on the first day of the academy. Then they would use Rolanna’s suggestion box to complain that I was intending to conspire against them, and if there is bad luck and a teacher is present, I might have to take the very familiar electrotherapy.
Therefore, I went straight to Rolanna’s office and got the result from her.
When I came to my dorm after getting the result and opened the door, I saw Angelica lying on the floor of my room pretending to be dead.
Honestly, seeing a ‘corpse’ as soon as I entered the house was really bad for my heart.
“Say, how much did you rank?” I sat down cross-legged on the floor.
“…” she responded in silence.
“First from the bottom?”
Angelica suddenly shuddered.
No way?
After a while, she sat up slowly, turned around, hung her head down, and whispered, “it’s second from the last.”
“At least, you’re not the last one, right?”
“The last student missed the exam due to illness…”
“….” this time I was silent.
“Eh… it is meaningless to compare the rankings, the important thing is to check the level of the exam.” after the silence, I began to search for ways to comfort her, “the students of this academy are supposed to have a high level, so even if the ranking is low—-”
“I have failed… four subjects,” she murmured.
The voice was very light, but it suddenly choked me speechless
“…. no, don’t worry. There are still makeup exams.” it took me a long time before I came up with words again “the academy will arrange a teacher for tutoring—”
“According to the academy rules, at the year-end exam… if you fail five or more subjects, you will be directly dismissed.” she threw another bomb.
“…..” I was speechless.
Seven days later there will be several practical exams, which means that she is finished if she fails one more.
Sitting down, we just stared at each other for a long time. Finally, she said with a crying face, “what to do…”
“What have you been doing?” I couldn’t help but hold my forehead.
What else could be done? please continue to lie down and pretend to be dead– so that I can easily drag you out and bury you.
“I obviously made great efforts to review…” her face was full of grievance.
“How did you review?” I asked.
“hmm…” she hesitated and was unable to explain it.
“What did you do on the first day?”
“I don’t remember….”
“What about the last day before the exam? You must have remembered it.”
“The progress dropped a lot, except for magic and biology theory….I tried to review all subjects, but was unable to finish them all in one night….”
“There was no planning.” I shook my head and sighed, “I asked you to come and study with me, but you didn’t listen. And now you are suffering it, second from the bottom in the exam …”
Having been taught a lecture, she looked over with a little unhappiness, “so, what about you, brock?”
“I’m third.”
“Not much… just one rank higher than me…” she puffed her face and said with a defiant tone.
I stared at her blankly for a while, then took out the written exam result I got from Rolanna and showed it to her, “ it is third from the top.”
This paper lists the names of the top 20 students in the written test.
“No…. this…” Angelica’s face looked as if she had seen a dragon walking towards her in an upside-down manner.
