At noon, Dean Rolanna informed me that I could move into my living quarters.
“We prepared the house, but the furniture is only a bed and a cabinet. Please make do with it.”
“Well, it’s already good enough,” I looked up at the wood house and said, “thank you very much.”
“There are some basic necessities in the cabinet. Let me know if there’s anything else you need. In addition, there are some materials and tools behind the house. You can make the things you want.”
“Things I need…” I thought about it seriously.
“Like a Spanish donkey…” Rolanna suggested from the side.
“What for?” I couldn’t help but give a blank look at her, “But, ma’am, I have a request.”
“What request?”
“Can I enter this forest?” I pointed to the groves just behind the wooden house.
“Yes, but the girl’s dormitory is not over there.” she tilted her head and pretended to be puzzled.
“…..”
“Don’t be so serious!” she laughed, “This forest is the unused area of the academy. There are no facilities and no elves, there are only wild animals around. What are you going to do there?”
“Actually, if possible, I’d like to hunt.” I scratched my head sheepishly, “because of the ration given to me by the Academy canteen…. It’s a little bit small for me.”
“Indeed, the food ration is based on standards of humans and elves, which should be insufficient for you.” Dean Rolanna nodded, “this kind of matters you can just say to me, I’ll ask them to increase your food.”
“No, no, don’t bother, I understand there is a fixed ration, and giving too much food to the prisoner of war might cause dissatisfaction. Moreover, it is not just about the increment, you see, all of your meals are vegetarian. Although the taste is pretty good, it’s a bit…”
“Oh, now I remembered!” Dean Rolanna realized, “you orcs mainly eat meat.”
“Yes, so I’d like to hunt and cook myself if I can.”
“In that case, I can give you permission.”
“Really?” I was overjoyed. “I thought I would get rejected. I heard that you elves strictly forbid taking the life of a living creature.”
“That is just a misunderstanding of the outside world. We just don’t advocate meaningless killing. We worship nature, and hunting is a part of nature. In fact, there are some elves who go hunting. We almost exclusively eat vegetarian food, because our sense of smell and taste is a little different from other races, meat is not particularly attractive to us.” Rolanna explained to me.
“I see.”
It seems that it was not just elves who have a misunderstanding about other races.
“You don’t have to go to class in the afternoon. Giving you time to clean up your room.”
“Is that okay?”
After all, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the teachings of the Academy.
“It doesn’t matter. Don’t forget that your ultimate goal here is to change the prejudice of the elves and not to actually graduate from here.” Rolanna shrugged. “You should know that it takes 30 years to graduate from the Academy.”
“That’s too long!” In my mind I pictured myself, I was in my declining years, and listening to the class sitting with a group of unchanged elves.
“Therefore, you don’t have to pay too much attention to your studies here. Well, forget about that. Just go in and see your new house.”
“It is good.”
I walked over and opened the door. I saw an ordinary single dorm room, with windows on all three sides. The lightning and ventilation were good, but there was only a bed and a single cabinet inside, which made the whole room look a little empty.
Since I have tools at the rear of the house, I can get some wood and make a set of tables and chairs.
Learning from my previous experience of kicking the threshold or nearly hitting the head, I deliberately lowered my head as I entered.
This action made me notice that there was something on the floor behind the door.
I leaned down and picked it up: “A letter?”
It was a pink envelope with a nice fragrance.
